Dimensional Sketches

The design was revamped after original work's file was corrupted. Inspiration came from shells and waves, as though the client can ride their work off the building and ride off the assembly line.
Steinway & Son's studio/workshop was left minimalist and elegant, letting the curved surrounding space speak for itself and the let the staircase become the signature architectural element in the space.

Week 3 #4 Architecture in Film

The International (2009) - This clip examines a shoot out in the "Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum" in New York. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the building is a staple to organic architecture and the film vivid expresses the intricacy of curves and forms whilst baddies are trying to kill Clive Owen.

Hotel Chevalier (2007) - I decided to include another video, this time a short film by Wes Anderson (a personal favourite). The reason I adore this short film so much, is the vivid and intricate combination of colours and patterns that grant the film both Anderson's trademark stylistic cinematography as well as a sense of visual rhythm and symmetry, and its richness, poignancy and careful construction.

Week 3 #3 The Model

Notes from last week:

1.The Revival - Studio staircase has been changed from the "Carlo Scarpa inspired" descent to a spiral staircase as a means of creating greater differentiation from the S&S staircase as well as experimenting with something different.
2. The top of the model has been redesigned. Inspired by Frank Ghery and deconstructivist architecture and design.

Resurgence + Flow

Week 2 #1 - Section Notes

Resurgence - Stairs are inspired by Carlos Scarpa's ideas of treads being of inconsistent length along the stairway. A balustrade was not included before aesthetic purposes. Children are not recommended to take these stairs.
Flow - Steinway's production of elegant and stylistic pianos inspired the vertical steel balustrade wiring which resembles "piano wire". Observers follow the rhythm of the stairs to the studio as though they were tapping each key on a piano from one side to another.
